Vintage 49-Star United States of America Flag
Take home an historic piece of America's past with this 1959 vintage 49-Star United States of America Flag. Up until 1959 the flag boasted 48 stars, however Alaska was admitted to the Union on January 3, 1959, and the 49-star flag became official 6 months later, on July 4, 1959. On August 21, a little over a month afterwards, Hawaii was admitted as a state as well, however, the flag did not change to 50 stars officially for almost a year. Since everyone knew that the flag would add a star and officially change in a year, most did not purchase the 49-star flag but opted to wait for the additional 50-star flag. The 49 white stars on the flag and blue rectangle in the canton represent the union of the states while the 13 alternating red and white stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. This petite Vintage 49-Star United States of America Flag measures, 11.25 inches H X 16.50 inches W, is held on with a 32.00 inch wooden stick, and is in appropriate wear for its age.
