Vintage Victorian Bookchain Mucha Necklace
$375.00
Mucha, a well known art nouveau artist who was known for these figures, with many depicting the moon and the stars and exotic nymphs caused a wonderful trend in the design of nouveau jewelry. Bookchains, ( especially ones with fancy etchings such as this)we popular in the victorian period were used to show off wonderful treasures, such as lockets and pendants. This leads me to believe this is a transitional piece. The necklace has some of the most beautiful and detailed tasseled pendant with pierced metal work. THese are solid and not thin metal castings. The Matching earrings ( newer hooks, the old ones were too deteriorated to wear) have the same matching drops with floral bales at the top. The long beautiful head also hangs from one of those floral tops. She is lighter in weight and is made from a metal that polishes up easily. The bookchain necklace has a hidden clasp and measures 15" long. THe longest drop ( the nymph ) is 2 7/8" long. THe pierced earrings are 2 1/4" long ( counting the wire). RIch old patina has given it a deep silver hue. We bought these for display in our store and they have never been worn since that purchase years ago. And now for the tedious part that you probably already know: PLease remember that vintage & antique items are not mint, nor are they perfect but they sure are full of old history and charm. All items are sold as is and as found (used and probably vintage) Since this is Irreplaceable there can be no returns on this sale.. Please use photos to make your decisions. My definition of Vintage is a style or method formerly in vogue.
