Our client's wonderful antique mantel clock with portico form dating from the first quarter of the 20th century is finely crafted from silverplate and featuring foo lions at the sides.  Retailed byYamanaka & Company Ltd.as indicated by the impressed mark, YAMANAKA / BRONZE, on underside.  Movement marked CHELSEA CLOCK CO. BOSTON.

Yamanaka was the preeminent Asian art here in the United States and in Europe during the late nineteenth century early twentieth century.  Based originally in Osaka, Japan, Yamanaka Sadajirō (1866–1936) opened his gallery in New York in 1894 and by 1917 acquired a five-story building on Fifth Avenue. He went on to open galleries in Chicago, Boston, London and elsewhere.  They enjoyed the most prestigious of clients, including the Rockefeller family, Charles Lang Freer, Ernest Fenollosa, among many others. A number of antiques retailed by the firm can be found in important museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Rijksmuseum, Seattle Art Museum, and Freer Gallery of Art.

In good condition.  Silvered surfaces tarnished.  Scuffs, scratches and small nicks to the jade stone surfaces.
