1902 Antique Bee aesthetic Sash buckle pink paste stone
$145.00
This huge sash buckle is from the aesthetic period. The passion for novelty jewelry was still fueling the jewelry industry but, to keep it fresh, new designs were introduced. The “honeymoon” brooch was a favorite, designed as a bee perched upon a crescent moon. Other silly novelties included diamond chickens, jeweled lizards, frogs and owls. The aesthetic period (1868 to 1901) brought about some of the most unusual pieces .In the late 1800's, Darwin's controversial theories on evolution, as well as new botanical discoveries taking place, created quite an interest in the natural world. Personal adornments and vanity items reflected these new interests with jewelry created in forms of insects and animals.
This buckle measures a whopping 3 1/2" long x 2 1/4" and is in great condition. It is marked august 13-02.
