Antique American - AETCO - Children's Fables Picture Tea Tile

$185.00
Quantity available: 1

Terrific picture tea tile in a classical setting from the series designed by Walter Crane, "Children's Fables". Here is "The Boaster" from the American Encaustic Tiling Company, Zanesville, OH. Printed at the bottom of the tile after the poem is the moral of the story: "Deeds Not Words." The tile is transfer printed in a rich and warm palette and covered in a soft satin glaze. Walter Crane's initials appear contained within a circle just the boaster's left shoulder. It is in excellent condition; there is light adhesive residue on the back and so it seems that the trivet was installed in a wall somewhere along its journey rather than having been used as a trivet; perhaps this is why it is in such excellent condition. These tiles are interesting in that they have adages similar to those on the Wedgwood tiles from the Homilies series also listed. Please write with any questions you may have.
