Terrific picture tile from the series designed by Walter Crane, "Children's Fables". Here is "Hercules & The Waggoner" from The Mosaic Tile Company, Zanesville, OH. Printed at the bottom of the tile after the poem is the moral of the story: "The gods help those who help themselves." The tile is transfer printed in a rich and warm palette and covered in a soft satin glaze. Walter Crane's initials appear contained within a circle at the very bottom left corner. It is in excellent condition with light edge nibbles and slight nick bottom right. These tiles are interesting in that they have adages similar to those on the Wedgwood tiles from the Homilies series also listed. Please write with any questions you may have.
