Aesthetic style jar with spiral body, made by Franz Mehlem of Bonn, Germany. Dates from around 1880. Hand painted over decal with gold trim. Have seen other pieces of this pattern, which leads me to believe it's a waste jar for a tea service, as it does not appear to have been fitted with a lid of any sort. May be part of the FME16 pattern shown on a popular replacements site. Measures 4.25"h x 4.25"d. Has some crazing of the glaze, but no chips or cracks. Inglenook Antiques...Established 1989.
