Colonial couple figurines made in Occupied Japan, 1945-52. Black mark on bottom. Hand-painted multicolor shiny glazes with gold trim. Same color palette and decoration, but opposite positions indicate they are a matched pair for a balanced display at each end of a shelf or mantel. Measures 4 5/8"h. No chips or cracks.
