Wonderful tile depicting a Dutch sailor with pipe and sailing ships in the background in translucent blue glaze from the preeminent German tile maker, Wessel Wandplattenfabrik, c. 1898-1910.  The tile is in only good condition with surface wear mainly along the hat brim and nose and some edge wear as shown.
