This is a large ( 2 1/2") solid sterling silver brooch with the grotesque mask at the bottom. The grotesque masks on this fabulous sterling brooch were used to scare away the bad spirits. This brooch was once a necklace and a jeweler replaced the bale so its owner could show it off as a brooch. IT is a large and unusual statement brooch that would make any lapel or scarf grab the attention of onlookers. Definitely one of a kind, this brooch is very medieval and interesting. Notice the tiny hair line crack. It does not affect the sturdiness of this well made solid sterling brooch.
